Basketball at the 2008 Olympic Games will be held from August 9, 2008 to August 24, 2008. Competitions will be held at the Wukesong Indoor Stadium in Beijing, China.

These tournaments are FIB World Championship classification or FIB Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women. The winners of these titles will be added to the list of teams that will compete in the games.

Already included in the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008 basketball line are Angola, Argentina, Australia, China, Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Spain and USA. The remaining three slots have yet to be decided by the IFF Olympic qualification tournament for men in Athens, Greece, which began last July 14. The teams included in the tournament are Brazil, Canada, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, the Republic of Korea, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and New Zealand.

Beijing has banned smoking in the city amid booths 66000 efforts to help create a "no smoking" Olympic Games in 2008. The ban effective from October 1, imposes a fine of 100 yuan to 200 yuan if the drivers are caught smoking in cabins. Passengers are also banned smoking in taxis…

The Olympics are a great way to impose on nations hosting become more cooperative in human affairs that can influence the world. I have just returned from Beijing 2 weeks ago and smog and smoke in the city is terrible. It is one of the worst cities I've been. The air is cleaner in just appeared on the air-conditioned places such as hotel or some department stores. Apart from that, the whole atmosphere is equivalent to a smoky fireplace.

The other thing I've noticed and I have mentioned Lai Ngan is that almost everyone we met was either holding a cigarette in hand or in his mouth. Almost everyone puffs and puffs! It's incredible! It was puffing on buses, cars, subways and while cycling or walking. The government does not put much emphasis on alert their populations about the dangers of smoking cigarettes, because nowhere did we see any signs warning not to smoke.

Now, with the Olympics due to Beijing next year, there is a provision in the atmosphere that China wants to show the world that can do an excellent job and even rivals past hostesses at all levels of class, glamour and prestige.

Fortunately, we can assume that after the Olympic Games, the general public, at least in Beijing, will take into account that smoking is bad for the health of the individual and the environment.

STARTERS:
PG: Jason Kidd, SG: Kobe Bryant, SF: LeBron James, PF: Carmelo Anthony, C: Dwight Howard. As in the past, Melo, a small forward, will have to play bigger than he really is as a power forward in this lineup. He can pull it off. And LeBron is much stronger than the average small forward, so that makes up for it a little. But still, it's somewhat small frontcourt. Defensively, Bryant is the team's best stopper for guarding the opponent's best swingman. Of the starters, Kidd is likely to play the least minutes.

BENCH PLAYERS:
Dwyane Wade has been the team's scoring star off the bench. The main backup point guard to Kidd is Chris Paul, though Paul may very well wind up playing more minutes than Kidd does. Deron Williams, a point guard, will be used at both PG and shooting guard. And then shooting guard Michael Redd brings a great, consistent outside shot and has the green light to rip the net every chance he gets. At small forward, the team has versatile, defensive-minded Tayshaun Prince. And at backup power forward and center the team has Chris Bosh and Carlos Boozer. Again, depth is very thin at the big-man spots.

China Basketball Olympic Tournament Preview

The Basketball Olympic 2008 took place in Beijing. Nine out of the 12 qualified teams were split into two groups that will compete in preliminary round play from Aug 10-18. The three remaining slots in the competition will be determined in a 12-team tournament held in Greece from July 14-20.
